Tolerance Rings continue to gain wide acceptance in the HDD industry due to achieving high resonance performance levels, directly attributable to the stiffness of the Tolerance Ring joint. The most popular applications involve mounting a bearing cartridge, which is comprised of two miniature ball bearings, a cartridge sleeve and a center shaft, into the bore of the actuator arm. The graph below compares the tolerance ring against other fastening methods and illustrates why the tolerance ring has been and continues to be the design of choice for a number of demanding platforms in the enterprise and desktop storage devices.
